June 29th - Pastels and Pans!!
I would like to take a moment to talk about PanPastels. What do I not like about Panpastels? I got them in Sept or Oct of 2015, and it was instant love. So much so, I bought the whole set less than a week after buying just a few to try out! At first I thought it was too frivolous a purchase, then I realized I had worked so much overtime that summer that I was going to splurge.
I haven't regretted laying that $$ out not even once! In fact, my only regret is that they don't come in more colors. More subtle flesh tones would be amazing, and more dark darks! I can only hope they expand more in the future, until then, I supplement the pans with both pencil and stick pastels, as well as the blackest black charcoal sticks I can find.
Pans were introduced to me by the talented Megan Buccerre. I always admired her work, and I had seen these things called PanPastel before, but up till meeting her, knew nobody working with them. When I first heard about them, they were out of my price range. I could not afford or justify even a beginning set, so I let it slip my mind for years.
Pastels appeal to the part of me that always loved the handling of charcoal, but also has a lust for color. The part of me that likes to paint, but hates the prep and clean up. With pastels, there are no dried out brushes or tops of tubes to worry about.
And the colors....mmmmmm.
